Levo vs macOS Storage settings
macOS already has a storage screen. In System Settings › General › Storage it breaks your disk into categories and offers a few ways to save space. It’s free, built in and a fine place to start. Levo is for the space it can’t explain.
What Storage settings does well
- A quick bar of Apps, Documents, Photos, System Data and so on.
- Safe, simple recommendations: store files in iCloud, empty the Trash automatically, review large files.
- A list of apps with their sizes, from which you can delete.
Where it stops
- “System Data” and “Developer”. These are usually the largest bars and say little. DerivedData, simulators, package caches, agent worktrees and model files are in there, as one number.
- No reasons. It doesn’t tell you what a folder is, who made it, or whether it comes back.
- Nothing watching. It’s a screen you open. It won’t tell you free space is nearly gone, or that something grew 20 GB since yesterday.
- No memory, CPU or GPU. That lives in Activity Monitor, where you work out the rest yourself.
What Levo adds
- Every folder that fills the disk, named, sized and with a reason, because your agent has looked at it.
- Notifications at the limits you set, with the list ready.
- Rows you tick, cleanup levels, and a guard that checks each item before it’s removed.
- The processes behind memory, CPU and GPU, with what can be quit.
- Uninstalling apps with the leftovers that dragging to the Trash misses.
Using both
They work together. Use macOS’s recommendations for iCloud and the Trash, and Levo for everything else. If the free space numbers don’t match, see Free space looks different in Finder.
