Automatic updates
Levo updates itself. It checks for a new version once a day, downloads it in the background and installs it while you’re away from your Mac.
What you see
Levo is a menubar app, so it never throws an update window at you. When a new version is waiting you’ll see it in four places:
- an Update pill in the popover;
- a badge on Licence in Settings, and a row inside that pane with the version and its release notes;
- an Update action in ⌘K;
- one notification for each new version.
Any of them brings up the install. After Levo has updated, the next time you open the popover it says “Updated to” and the new version number, once.
Install updates automatically
This switch is on by default, in Settings › Licence. With it on, Levo downloads each update as soon as it’s found and installs it at the first quiet moment. A menubar app rarely quits, so Levo picks a moment itself. The Update pill doesn’t appear in this mode, because there’s nothing for you to do. If you want to update straight away, the Update button in Settings installs at once.
With the switch off, Levo still checks every day, and the Update pill waits for you. Nothing installs until you click it.
Check by hand
- Open Settings › Licence.
- Next to your version number, click Check for updates….
The same version number is there when you need to tell us which Levo you’re on.
If the switch is greyed out
Automatic installs only work when Levo is in your Applications folder. If you opened Levo straight from the download or from a disk image, drag it into Applications, open it from there, and the switch comes back.
What an update changes
Your settings, your protected folders, your licence and your agent choice stay as they are. An update doesn’t clean anything and doesn’t switch on Auto mode.
What leaves your Mac
The update check reads one file from omggg.wtf, the list of versions. Nothing about you is sent with it. See Privacy: what leaves your Mac.
